“If Anthropic is truly facing a “capacity crunch,” it’s choosing to solve said crunch through sheer, unbridled greed, taking on more customers as it struggles to keep its services at above two nines of availability.”
Our reading:
If capacity-constrained, Anthropic is greedily adding customers while struggling to keep availability above 99%.

Why
The condition held. In its S-1 filed October 26, 2026, Anthropic says it has 'consistently operated in a compute-constrained environment where customer demand exceeds available compute'. On April 14, 2026, Fortune reported that Anthropic had a series of recent outages as usage grew and had introduced stricter peak-hour usage limits. The checkable parts of the claim also hold. A Wayback capture of Anthropic's status page from May 6, 2026, the post date, showed 90-day uptime of 98.73% for claude.ai, which is below two nines. The API (99.05%), Console (99.15%) and Claude Code (99.22%) were just above 99%. On April 6, 2026, Anthropic said the number of business customers each spending over $1 million on an annualized basis had gone from over 500, as stated at its February Series G announcement, to more than 1,000. That shows Anthropic adding large accounts during the period. Main-service availability near or below 99% fits the contract's reading of 'struggles to keep its services at above two nines'. 'Greed' and 'choosing' are moral judgments and are not graded.
Caveats
- Only the factual parts are graded. 'Unbridled greed' and 'choosing' are opinion.
- The uptime figures are Anthropic's own status-page numbers and may count partial degradation differently from third-party monitors.
- The customer evidence covers only business customers spending over $1 million on an annualized basis, from February to April 6, 2026. It does not give total customer counts for the whole period.
- The capacity evidence comes from a news report and a later company filing. Neither measures capacity directly.

Why it matters: On the day of the post, Anthropic's own status page showed 90-day uptime of 98.73% for claude.ai, below two nines. The API (99.05%), Console (99.15%) and Claude Code (99.22%) were only just above 99%.

Supports the claim: Anthropic,
When we announced our Series G fundraising in February, we shared that over 500 business customers were each spending over $1 million on an annualized basis. Today that number exceeds 1,000, doubling in less than two months.
Why it matters: Anthropic says its large business customers doubled between February and April 2026, so it was taking on more customers during the same window.

Supports the claim: Fortune,
Anthropic suffered a series of recent outages as usage has increased and has introduced stricter usage limits during peak hours, drawing complaints from some users.
Why it matters: A contemporaneous report that Anthropic faced outages and rationed usage as demand grew, consistent with a real capacity crunch.

Supports the claim: Anthropic, PBC (SEC Form S-1),
we have consistently operated in a compute-constrained environment where customer demand exceeds available compute.
Why it matters: Anthropic itself states that it has consistently been compute-constrained, with demand above available compute. That confirms the claim's condition.

Conditions
- if truly capacity constrained (their words)
Where we had to interpret
- The condition is whether Anthropic faced a real capacity shortage around the time of the post.
- 'Greed' and 'choosing' are moral judgments and are not graded. The checkable parts are (a) that Anthropic kept adding customers and (b) that it struggled to keep availability above 99% ('two nines').
- 'Struggles to keep above two nines' is read as measured availability of its main services near or below 99%, not as a requirement that every service fell below 99%.
- The period is the roughly 90 days before the post (about February 5 to May 6, 2026), which matches the window Anthropic's status page reports.
Right if: Anthropic faced a capacity shortage; its status page showed availability for its main services at or just around 99% in the period; and it reported growing customer numbers in the same period.
Wrong if: Availability for Anthropic's main services was comfortably above 99% (for example 99.9%), or Anthropic was not adding customers in the period.
