“With that in mind, I believe that Apple is radicalizing millions of people against generative AI by forcing them to reckon with the terrible summaries, awful suggested texts and horribly-designed user interface elements of Apple Intelligence.”
Our reading:
Apple Intelligence's poor quality is turning millions of people against generative AI.

We checked, and the evidence so far doesn’t settle it.
Judged on a plain reading. They named no measure, so we used the reading a typical informed reader would take. It is spelled out under “How we judged it”.
Evidence up to . Checked .
Why
SellCell's November 28–December 6, 2024 survey found that 64.7% of surveyed Apple Intelligence users considered its features not very valuable [e1]. MacRumors reported inaccurate BBC notification summaries on January 16, 2025 [e2]. These items document low perceived value and summary errors, but do not measure changes in general attitudes toward generative AI [e1, e2]. They neither establish nor rule out an Apple-caused increase in opposition affecting millions by February 24, 2025 [e1, e2].
Caveats
- Product value ratings do not measure changes from prior attitudes toward generative AI.
- Defect reports do not establish how many people became more opposed to generative AI.
- The evidence provides no causal estimate separating Apple Intelligence exposure from other influences.

not very valuable
Why it matters: The survey, fielded November 28–December 6, documents low perceived value. It also reports continued purchasing interest in AI features; neither finding measures an Apple-caused shift against generative AI.

Why it matters: This contemporaneous report establishes concrete summary failures. News reporting is used for the observed defects; it provides no evidence that millions changed their general AI attitudes.

Where we had to interpret
- The ordinary reading is that experiencing Apple Intelligence's defects caused millions of people to become substantially more opposed to generative AI generally by the post date.
- I operationalize the plural 'millions' as at least two million people. Zitron supplied no exact threshold or geography.
- Disliking Apple's implementation, declining to pay for it, or already opposing AI does not alone establish the claimed change in attitudes.
Right if: Representative evidence links exposure to Apple Intelligence's defects to increased opposition to generative AI, with a defensible population estimate of at least two million affected people by publication.
Wrong if: Comparable evidence measures the causal change and rules out an effect affecting at least two million people. Favorable average ratings alone would not rule out a large dissatisfied minority.
We wrote this test after the outcome was known.
What would settle it
Representative research measuring attitudes before and after exposure, isolating the effect of Apple Intelligence defects, and estimating the affected population by February 24, 2025. The estimate must establish or rule out increased opposition among at least two million people.
