Why

TechRadar's September 2, 2025 report describes Salesforce support staffing falling from about 9,000 to 5,000 as Agentforce took over work. [e1] Salesforce said it no longer needed to backfill support engineer roles and had redeployed hundreds of employees. [e1] This supports a threat to some paid roles, without establishing 4,000 layoffs or individual income losses. [e1] A May 2025 Danish study using late-2023 and 2024 adoption surveys found no significant earnings or recorded-hours effects in the 11 occupations studied. [e2]

Caveats

  • The Salesforce evidence is reporting containing employer statements, not an independent causal audit or personnel record.
  • The report does not establish how many affected workers became unemployed or lost income.
  • The evidence does not establish economy-wide net job losses or a threat to every reader's livelihood.
  • The staffing changes are dated to 2025, without a precise completion date.

Why it matters: The report describes support staffing falling from about 9,000 to 5,000 as Agentforce took over work. Salesforce's response says roles no longer needed backfilling and hundreds of employees were redeployed, establishing reduced demand for these paid roles without establishing 4,000 layoffs.

Why it matters: This Danish study found no significant effects on earnings or recorded hours in the occupations studied. It limits claims of broad realized income damage, but does not negate a documented threat to particular paid roles elsewhere.

Where we had to interpret

  • I assess the normalized livelihood forecast, not the preceding personification about what AI wants.
  • The ordinary reading is that generative AI will threaten some people's paid work, rather than eliminate every reader's employment.
  • Documented removal or nonreplacement of paid roles because generative AI performs their work establishes a threat. Economy-wide net job losses are not required.
  • The decisive event must occur after publication.

Right if: Documented post-publication displacement of paid human work, removal of paid roles, or material earnings losses attributable to generative AI.

Wrong if: Decisive evidence ruling out the predicted threat to paid work generally. Employment growth or successful redeployment in particular settings cannot alone contradict an indefinite forecast about a threat to some workers.
